How do I know when it’s time to change my air filter?

We recommend changing your filters every 6 months. If you live in a home with pets or people who suffer from allergies, you may need to change your filters more frequently. Factors like how often you run your HVAC system, outside air conditions, how often you clean your home, and the age of your home will all impact filter lifespan.

My filter looks dirty after a month or two. Should I change it?

Accepted Answer

Remove your filter and hold it up to a lightbulb. If you can still see light through it, the filter is still good. Our graduated density media means the filter may look dirty while positioned in the unit. When put up to a light, though, you can easily see if it’s still promoting airflow.

Why do your air filters last longer than other ones?

Accepted Answer

All pleated-style filters are face-loading, which means they capture all dirt particles — regardless of size — on the outer surface of the filter. Our filter is different. We use a graduated density media that captures dirt particles by size. Larger particles are captured in the first part of the media, while finer particles are captured near the back of the filter as air moves through. This graduated system allows filters to capture more particulate and last an average of twice as long as a face-loading filter.

Why is the selvage edge in your air filters important?

All installed air filters introduce resistance and create a pressure imbalance, with higher pressure where airflow meets the filter and lower pressure where it exits the filter. Air, like water, takes the path of least resistance. Thanks to minimal resistance, air will make its way around the filter instead of through the media. Our selvage edge eliminates this blow-by, filtering 100% of the air and providing cleaner indoor air for your family.

Which way does the filter go in?

Accepted Answer

The back of the filter says 'downstream' on it. The downstream side is where the air exits the filter, and that’s the side that should be facing your AC unit.
